Tsalteshi Trails

Stopped at the dump on the way to the trails. Here's our national bird posing with some of our garbage.

It was a great weekend for a little skiing. The trails were in good condition and the temps in the teens. We are very fortunate to live just a couple miles from a well maintained trail system. The boys had a lesson on Saturday. Tad and I tagged along too. We enjoyed being out so much that Sunday we decided to go out again. Maybe our expectations were set a little high, but it ended up not being the fun family outing we had envisioned. Alex gets crabby and starts whining when he is in "last place." Tad and I yell at Tim to stop and wait for us. Tim complains about being cold when he has to stop. We yell at him that he wouldn't be cold if he didn't lose his nice gloves. Alex cries that he hates skiing. Of course this all happens when you're past the point of no return. Did I mention the trails are a one way system?
The last picture is me managing not to wipe out on a downhill. I'm finding it hard to turn when going downhill on cross-country skis. Not caught on film is a wipe out where I ended up with the back of one of my skis stuck in the front pocket of my jacket. Alex beat me out for the best wipe out. He went head first into a snow bank and was so embedded, Tad had to pull him out by the legs.

Blog Block

I apologize for the 4 weeks of no postings. I'll blame it on the cold and the darkness. The boys have been busy taking cross-country ski lessons. They've had 2 lessons cancelled due to the cold (less than -10), and 1 lesson cancelled due to rain. They are hoping Mt Redout erupts sometime today so school will get cancelled. We have gotten quite a few inquiries regarding Mt Redoubt. I included some pictures from the Alaska Volcano Observatory website. Both pictures were taken yesterday. The AVO website is a great place to go for updates! I'll try to get our camera out sometime this week.
